Happy Spring Equinox + Aries season. It’s kind of Ironic (in a Alanis sort of way lol) that when we are kicking off the season of “doing” and “blazing forward into the new year” we have all be forced to sit the fuck down. Spring has begun and Mother Nature has repremanded us to not get to hasty. 2020 is the Emperor year in the tarot and it’s looking like the emperor is being forced into a new groove. One where instead of forcing their will upon the earth, they are working with it and their community to make it a better place because anything less means the extermination of us all.
I originally had a completely different post planned for today full of fun spring time frockling ideas - if you’ve been watching my igtv videos I’ve been using gardening and flower metaphors for the last year for some reason and wanted to fully embrace those ideas literally but with this Corvid-19 epedemic we are being forced to look internally instead of externally. How have we been tending our inner gardens? Are we over grown? Dry + desolate? Or consistently nurtured? What are we growing? What do we aspire to grow? All fun questions to ask ourselves with the changing of the seasons. Right now it kind of feels like we are being forced into our garden beds to tend to ourselves. To see how we grow. To lean towards the sun and to hydrate. All things that go out the window in the midst of capitalism but are needed in order for us to thrive and make the most of the opportunities capitalism can offer (like being your own boss for example)
This year’s equinox falls on a waning aquarius moon, inviting us to draw on our most inner self in the midst of this darkness so that we can share what we find with others illuminating and helping each other through the dark. So sure we might not be able to do a showy outside ritual but maybe we can sit with ourselves and take the wisdom from past situations and failures and let them be the compost we use to nourish new endeavors. And there is plenty of opportunity for new endeavours with all this time we have in this quarantine.
Now is also a great time of fear. Fear of the future, the present and the unknown. We can use today to start a daily practice of grounding and centering so that we can regulate these feelings to the best of our ability. A simple grounding excersise is to practice a four fold breath for four rounds and then envision yourself sitting under a large tree. Imagine a bright white light shining down unto the tree and into you clearing out any energetic blockages, anxious feelings or anything else that doesn’t serve you. You can imagine these things as a different colour light leaving your body down through through the bottom of your feet and into the roots of the tree back into the earth. Envision this for several breaths until you feel calm and clear. Doing this after a long day or after an intense bout of emotions can really help. If the nature visuals aren’t your thing, you can also do something similar by envisioning a candle or the sun burning away those feelings away and then you absorbing that fiery blaze which resparks your inner flame + lust for life.
If you are looking to do something festive. Today is a great day to redecorate your home and/or altar for spring. Add fresh flowers, white, pink, green, blue or gold candles, crystals like rose quartz, clear quartz, lapis lazuli or fluorite, and tarot cards such as the empress, nine of cups, queen of pentacles, temperence and the star. Make a floor wash w/ Florida or rose water, basil, lavender, chamomile, lemon balm and jasmine and wash your floors, windows and surfaces to invite prosperity, warmth and positivity into your home.
If you are up to doing some spell work you can light a candle (black or white dressed in a banishing oil or plain olive oil, black + cayenne pepper, salt, rosemary and a crushed bay leaf) to banish any of your negative emotions surrounding current events and/or the consequences of them and light another candle (white, purple, or pink dressed in healing or positivity oil, or plain olive oil with hibiscus, basil, yarrow, chamomile, and lavender) to invite understanding, gentleness and acceptance. Make sometime to sit in front of your altar or sacred space to pray/connect to the divine - whatever that looks like for you. For me that’s been lighting a candle, some incense and just chatting occasionally reciting pre- written prayers or sometimes just meditating on an idea or affirmation. This can also be a great way to ground with all the craziness happening.
If hope this mini guide was helpful! Let me know how you spent your equinox!
